Texas Spring = Blue Bonnets!

Springtime in Texas
means
Blue Bonnets!

I took a few minutes to drive over to a field of blue bonnets I had been keeping an eye on for the last week as I drove by them on my way home from work.  They are almost to their peak of photographability (yes I did make that word up).  In other words, it is blue bonnet photo time!

I poked around and snapped a few pictures while I was there...

Got a couple of bee shots...

And found an albino blue bonnet!

Shoot the Moon

Shoot The Moon

I have become somewhat obsessed with night sky photography of late.  This photo was my first attempt at shooting the moon.  I took it with my 18-135 mm zoom lens.  I will be getting a "zoomier lens" (to quote my sister) so I can attempt even clearer images of our orbiter...

More Product Photography
and
A Fantastic Product

My sister-in-law recently started her own business and asked me to do some product photos for her.  She is making unique necklaces hand-crafted from re-purposed belt buckles!  They are gorgeous and I loved photographing them... note: if you have discovered that are not as patient with live photography subjects as you thought you might be, product photography is soooo another way to go; they stay right where you put them, you can walk away for any amount of time, and they don't whine... ;-)

Another form of photography that many hobbyists don't consider is product photography.  Since I work full-time and then have dinner, homework, cuddle time, and bedtime routines with my boys in the evenings, there are often times that I miss the daylight entirely for photography opportunities during the week!  So I started photographing products in a homemade lightbox... you can google "lightbox" and get tons of ideas and information.

Photography Therapy

Texas Sunset

As a crazy-busy single mom, I use my photography to find quiet time for myself after a busy day at work.  I got this shot while walking around a local nature center with my dog one evening... enjoying the quiet...

Happy Mama

On-location photography can be a new photographer's best friend!  There are no costs involved with studio set-up, etc.  So find a nice city park, etc., and start shooting! Here is one from a maternity session I did a few weeks ago... looking forward to taking pictures of the baby after he's born!

Candid Crow Photography takes the Leap!

Welcome to my new blog

My name is Cassi Crow and I have recently started my new business, Candid Crow Photography, in beautiful Boerne, Texas.  It is a hobby turned part-time business for me.  Full time I am a single mom to two boys and a hydrologist with the US Geological Survey.  I hope to make this blog useful to others who are stepping out into the realm of hobbyist turned professional photographer...
